Bombo's
Pond
Bombo's Pond could have been called 'Hidden Pond' because you
can drive right by it and miss it. It originally was a quarry
for the Nye County Road Department. At some point they hit a
spring and the quarry filled with water. At least that's what
Bombo himself told me. Often when you go there you'll have it
all to yourself. Walk your dogs, feed the ducks or just relax.
There is supposed to be bass in the pond if you care to try
your luck. I've been told the state is considering stocking the
pond with trout and crappie. This is a nice, clean, quiet place
and we need to keep it that way. Feel free to use the trash
dumpster provided. And it never hurts to pick up a little trash
too. Even if it's not yours. There are no regulations posted
here and hopefully will stay that way. Please enjoy yourself
and leave it as you found it. To find the pond head South from
Beatty on US 95 about 1 to 2 miles. Turn right (West) on
Vanderbilt Road. As soon as you make the turn you will see the
pond on the right. The ruins of an old mill are on the
hillside. Plans are being discussed to make this into a park
with some facilities. At any rate it is an interesting place to
explore. Enjoy!
