The Beatty Railroad
Mural This is a beautiful mural painted on the
side of one of the Janda Ribbons buildings. If you are
passing through Beatty you can see it from highway 95 next
door to the Ensenada Grill. It depicts the Tonopah
& Tidewater Railroad Engine #1 arriving in Beatty. At
one time three railroads served Beatty and the Bullfrog
Mining District. This incredible work was done by
Laura Cunningham in
2008.

"A lot of Beatty
folks came to help with this mural, building the framework to
hold the steel panels. Many people had great information about
where the old tracks were and what color the depot might have
been. One fellow had even driven steam engines and could give
me exact information about the workings of a train. I traveled
around Nevada to look at historic engines and depots to help
with the mural as well. Painting the mural was a lot of fun,
although sometimes the wind, dust, and heat became so strong I
had to quit for a day. It took me three months to paint. I
chose special weather-proof mineral-based acrylic pigments that
will not fade in the sunlight, and the whole mural is coated in
a protective clear varnish to seal it against the
elements." -Laura
